I am a Senior Research Fellow at the Oxford Uehiro Centre for Practical Ethics and a Fellow at Reuben College (University of Oxford). I am also the subject editor for the applied ethics section of the Routledge Encyclopedia of Philosophy. My work lies in applied  ethics. I currently hold a Wellcome Trust Research Fellowship to work on my project ‘The Ethics of Genome Editing in Livestock’.  I previously held a Marie Curie Fellowship at Oxford to complete a two-year project on moral complicity of medical professionals in others’ wrongdoing (e.g. possible complicity of doctors in torture or in discriminatory practices). Prior to coming to Oxford, I was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow and then Assistant Professor in the Department of Philosophy and Moral Sciences at Ghent University (Belgium). I obtained my PhD in Philosophy from Ghent University in 2006. I have published two monographs – one investigating compromise positions in the embryonic stem cell debate (OUP, 2015) and one investigating the ethics of human cloning (Leuven University Press, 2001). I have also published on ethical issues pertaining to the treatment of sex offenders, genetic selection, gamete donation, life extension, compromising in bioethical debate, euthanasia at prisoners’ requests, and gene editing. In 2015, I created The Practical Ethics Channel (The Uehiro Centre’s YouTube channel), which makes complex ethical debates accessible to a wide audience through video interviews  with academics, which I conduct, film and edit.
